Caron Simply Soft Secondary Color: 2 skeins  (Off White)
Crochet Hook Size J    Yarn Needle

With main color, ch 151
Row 1:     Sc in 2nd ch from hook and ea ch across. Ch 2 loosely, turn. (NOTE:  I like to make an elongated ch 2 instead of a ch 3 to avoid the holes you can get at the edge of your work.  This ch 2 counts as the first stitch of the next row.)
Row 2:      Sk st at base of ch, *sk next sc, dc in next sc, dc in skipped sc. Rep across to end, dc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 3:     Sc in ea st across, at end, sc in top of ch 2, ch 2, turn.
Row 4:     Rep row 2.
Row 5:     Rep row 3, fasten off main color.
Row 6:     Attach secondary color. Rep row 3.
Row 7:     Rep row 2.
Row 8:     Rep row 3.  Fasten off secondary color, attach main color.
Row 9:     Rep row 3.
Row 10:   Rep row 2.
Row 11:   Rep row 3.
Row 12:   Rep row 2.
Row 13:   Rep row 3.

Rows 14-125:   Repeat pattern, alternating 5 rows of main color with 3 rows of secondary color.  You should end with 5 rows of main color.  Fasten off.  Weave in all ends.

Border:    On outside, attach secondary color at one corner, ch 1 and sc around all edges of afghan.  I placed 3 sc at the ends of the white stripes and 5 sc at the ends of the blue stripes.  You must place the sc so that the sides with the ends of rows does not become wavy.  When you get to the corners, place 3 sc into corner stitches.  At the end, 2 sc into stitch where you attached the yarn, sl st to beginning ch 1, ch 2.
Round 2:     Dc into ea sc around, placing 5 dc into corner stitches.  At the end, 2 dc into place of joining, sl st to top of ch 2, ch 1.
Round 3:     Sc into ea dc around, placing 3 sc into corner dcs.  At the end, place 2 sc into place of joining, sl st to ch 1.  Fasten off.  Weave in ends.
Round 4:     Attach main color to any corner st, ch 1, sc in ea sc around, placing 3 sc into corner stitches.  At the end, 2 sc into place of joining, attach to beginning ch 1 with a sl st. ch 2.
Round 5:     Repeat round   2.
Round 6:     Sc around, join with sl st, ch 2.
Round 7:     Repeat round 2
Round 8:     Repeat round 6 but omit ch 2 at end.
Edging:       sl st in first 3 sc,  ch 4,  sl st into sc at base of ch (picot made), * sl st into next 2 sc, ch 4, sl st into st at base of ch*  Repeat from * to * until all four edges of the afghan are filled with picots.  At the end, sl st into beginning sl st.  If you end up with 3  sts at the end, simply skp a st to make the edging work out properly.  Fasten off weave in ends.

Blocking:     I noticed that my edge had a tendency to turn in a little so I blocked the edge lightly by holding my steam iron above it for a few seconds.  Do not touch the fabric with the iron.  When the edge is damp, pat it down so that the picot will stay in place.
